The sacred Pampa
River
Pampa River
is very beautiful! This river comes
through the forest and those too very
important
places. You may rember Vijayan. Devotees coming down to Pampa River bank duly
tired after a long journey from Erumeli through the difficult & risky
forest path, and they will feel better on seeing the Pampa River. One cannot explain the beauty of the Pampa
River in writing. Here only Lord
Ayyappan came to earth in the form of a child Manikandan. Such an important place is Pampa River
Banks. It is also called Poongavanam
(Park) of Lord Ayyappan.
Many
have detailed out about Pampa in the Sacred Ramayana. Sri Rama was wandering in the forests and
came to Pampa River banks when He lost his Devi Sita. Sri Rama rested on the banks of Pampa and
took some relief. Actually, he forgot
everything for a while on
seeing the
natural calamities of Pampa. There is a
place in Pampa banks called Sri Rama Paadam (leg prints). Maharaja of Travancore had written one song
“Bhaavayaami Raghuraamam”. He has
detailed in the above Kirthana the lines “Anaka Pampaatheera Sanga Thaanjaneya
Napomani” and also explained Sabarimala as Baalikeraatha Mala (Vaali Keraatha
Mala). People of Kerala have also
praised the Sabarimala in many ways.
There is story of a crow also? In
that the crow has come to Pampa River banks after a long trip, but it has
forgotten to drink water on hearing “Rama Naamam”. Also there is another story about one
Frog. The Frog was on Rama Nama
meditation and Sri Rama came near that and placed his leg over that and it was
smashing. Then it cried and Sri Rama
suddenly asked it why you have not jumped out when this happened. For that the Frog replied that if this
smashing was done due to somebody else I would have done that and cried out for
the help of Sri Rama. When Sri Rama
himself was smashing it what can I call for help? It also replied that because Sri Rama placed
his leg over that it is a good one and it attained the eternal life. When the Crow & Frog have attained
eternal life due to reason that it lived on the banks of Pampa River why a
human could not get the same.
There is a
story that Parasurama while creating Kerala from the sea he brought water from
important Rivers and poured on this land and it only have later formed as a
River and
(the above is sabarigiri project)
known as Pampa. Sage Parasuraman and Ayyappan too have
advised that Pampa is equivalent to Ganga in clearing out the sins of mankind
and that is why the Pampa is also known as Dakshina Ganga. There is a place in Pampa where Rivers
Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswathi are joining together and that point is known as
Triveni Sangamam. Many people dip in
Prayaaga on the auspicious day of Kumbhamela Day. Just like that many devotees
dip in the Triveni Sangamam, which is equivalent to Prayaag.
