Kulathoor Puzha
Once upon a time there came some five/six
people to part of Kerala. Those people
were the superior bhakthaas of Saastha.
One famous thanthri named Gokulam was also among them. One day they came to one Puzha and
immediately the thanthri went to the Puzha (Small branch of River) for a
bath. The balance bhakthaas arranged for
cooking some eatables. They arranged
some stones to form a stove. They wanted
to break one stone for that. While doing
so It had gone to 8 pieces. Blood also
came from the stone. They were stunned
to see the blood coming out, that too from a stone; they wanted to tell the
same to the thanthri and they went to the puzha immediately. That thanthri was taking bath and one boy
named Manikumaran came near to him. He
told him that he was residing only near to that falls and his parents used to
go out for begging eatables like rice, vegetables, etc. from others. The thanthri was tensed on hearing this and
he asked the boy to share food with them. The boy also told “Yes” for that but
disappeared immediately.
After some time, the boy returned and came
near to him along with Pori (made of rice) and gave it to the fishes that were
living in that river. The same system
only is done by us even today. By the
time, the other bhakthas came running to thanthri and told him the entire
story. Suddenly, he went to the spot and
saw that. He was much shocked on seeing
that. The thanthri prayed of Saastha and
Sri Dharma Saastha appeared before him and said that Paasuraman had installed
the Idol there in Baala Roopam and the same got some parts broken out. He asked the thanthri to join those broken
pieces together and install the same. He
also advised him to meet the King of that area and ask him to construct up a
temple.
Accordingly the thanthri joined those broken
pieces together and it formed the original position. He did necessary pooja and asked somebody to
continue the poojas daily. He
approached the concerned King along with the people who were residing in that
area and narrated the entire story. The
king also did the same with some facilities like Tanks, other temples,
etc. Later, the name of the place was
known as Kulathoor Puzha and same idol only we are seeing today.
When they approached the King they knew that
his wife (queen) was attachcked by Yakshini who was living there. Yakshni is the wife of Yaksha, assistant of
Kubera (Kuber), God of wealth. There are
so many Yakshaas as assistants of Kubera.
A Yaksha/Yakshnini is a superior ghost with everlasting powers both good
& bad, just like a magician). The
thanthri made the Yakshini in such a manner that she follows thanthri’s words
and the Yakshni went inside of the pot.
Immediately after that the thanthri closed the pot’s mouth well. This can be seen in Kulathoor Puzha even
today. He then worshipped Saastha. Sri Dharma Saastha called for Bhothanaatha,
the one among Sivaganaas (Paramasivan’s assistants) and asked him to take care
of the Yakshini. He also told Bhoothanatha
that one separate temple would be constructed by His side.
