Kaanippon
(Kaanippanam) – Why are we keeping the same inside the Mudrakkayi Bag?
While
a Guruswamy ask to fill up the coconut with ghee, he will ask us to keep three
one rupee coins along betel leaf and nut in the bag. This is called the “Kaanippon”. We have to put one rupee for lord Ayyappan;
one rupee for Manjamaatha in the corresponding Hundi. We have to bring the balance one rupee for
our Kuladaivam (family god) to be put in his Hundi in His temple. This money should not be mixed with other
cash and that is why we are keeping the same inside the bag. Not only that, we have to give Dakshina to
Ayyappan along with the Mudra Thengai (Mudra Coconut duly filled with Ghee).
