AMARENDRAN IN AYYAPPA STORY

The Post of Amarendran (Devendran)

You are aware that Manikandan had asked the King to build a temple for him.  As per his advice, the King also constructed a temple near the Saramkutri Al (the banyan tree where Manikandan’s bow was struck).  This information was conveyed to Devendran by sage Narada.  The sage also told him that the king would get blessing equal to conducting 1000 Aswametha Yagas (performing Yagnaa 1000 times) if he constructs a temple for Manikandan.  As per the religious rule, 100 Yagnaas are sufficient for achieving the post of Devendran.  But the King Rajasekharan would be doing 1000 such Yagnaas and “because of this he will get more than even very superior to Devendran”, he thought.  Hence he started to give trouble to the King, but it was in vain.  At last, the king has constructed the temple and he was eligible for a superior post.  He did not like such a post, but he wanted to attain Paramasivan’s feet and he wanted to be with him always.  He was given so.
